Copyright notice requirements
A notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) should include:
- a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or authorized agent;
- identification of the copyrighted work, or a representative list when one notice covers multiple works;
- identification and location of the material claimed to infringe, with enough detail to find it;
- your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address;
- a good-faith statement that the disputed use is not authorized by the owner, agent, or law; and
- a statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner.
Knowingly making a material misrepresentation may create liability. A copyright complaint is a legal notice, not a customer-support shortcut.
Voice, likeness, trademark, and other complaints
If your voice, identity, likeness, performance, or trademark was used without permission, identify yourself or the rights-holder you represent, describe the right and jurisdiction, locate the material, explain why the use is unauthorized, and provide a reliable way to contact you. We may request additional verification while minimizing collection of sensitive documents.
Counter-notice
If your material was removed because of a DMCA notice and you believe removal was a mistake or misidentification, a counter-notice should satisfy 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3), including your signature, identification of removed material, a statement under penalty of perjury, consent to the appropriate federal court’s jurisdiction, and consent to accept service from the original complainant. Unless the claimant files an action seeking a court order, eligible material may be restored in the statutory timeframe.
Repeat infringers
LyricPatch records valid notices and counter-notices, terminates repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances, and accommodates standard technical measures as required by law. We may also act on clear violations outside the DMCA process.
